Elyad Damerchi has successfully defended his PhD “Heat-Induced Morphological and Structural Changes in Nanostructures” and obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science.
In his doctoral work, Elyad investigated how temperature, heating time, nanowire diameter, contact with a supporting surface, and repeated heating and cooling influence the thermal stability of metallic nanowires. The changes were studied using electron microscopy and interpreted with computer simulations. He also developed Nano1D, a software tool for automatically analysing large collections of microscopy images and measuring nanowires and the fragments formed during their breakup.
